Khosru was released on Monday morning after the Chattogram Central Prison received the bail papers and scrutinised them, said Senior Jail Superintendent Prashanta Kumar Banik.

An audio record of an alleged phone discussion between Khosru and another individual named Nowmi leaked on social media during the student protests for road safety.

Chattogram Metropolitan Chhatra League Acting General Secretary Zakaria Dostagir filed an ICT Act case against the BNP leader with the Kotwali Police Station on Aug 4.

“BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was conspiring against the nation,” the case alleged. “Using electronic devices he was attempting to cause unrest and incite violence.”

Khosur had received a six-week advance bail from the High Court on Aug 27, which was upheld on appeal.

The BNP leader surrendered to the Chattogram Judge’s Court on Oct 7 to ask for an extension after the bail term’s end. On Oct 21 the court dismissed his bail petition and sent Khosru to prison.

Khosru then challenged the decision at the High Court. On Nov 4, Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Zafar Ahmed granted him interim bail in the case.
