The gunfight took place near Chikunia Bridge at Gandharbapur Union in Shahrasti Upazila on late Wednesday night, said Shahrasti Police Station chief Mizanur Rahman.

Police could not identify the man, but said he was a ‘drug trader’.

Police first raided an area near Chikunia Bridge to seize a drug consignment, said the police station chief.

“Drug traders then attacked the police and one person was injured in the gunfight that followed.”

Doctors declared him dead after he was taken to Shahrasti Upazila Health Complex, said Rahman.

Three police members were also injured in the incident, he said. A gun and 83 yaba pills have been recovered from the scene.
