CEC Nurul Huda vows to keep city polls free from controversy

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has instructed all government agencies to stay alert to keep Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet polls free from any controversy ahead of the looming national elections.

Huda also promised to create a level-playing field for everyone by keeping the voting environment “free and fair”.

“All government agencies have been instructed to remain alert so that the city elections do not run into any controversy. No additional measures are required for this. Strong action will be taken in line with the law,” said the CEC after a meeting on Thursday.

Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal city elections will be held on Jul 30.

In May, the ruling Awami League-backed candidates were elected mayors of Khulna and Gazipur.
