The statement came amid criticism of the government’s ‘war on drugs’ that killed at least 45 people in parts of Bangladesh.
“Everyone involved in drug trafficking will be brought under the law according to a list provided by intelligence agencies. Whoever is involved in drug trafficking will be punished,” Khan spoke at the inauguration of a crackdown on drugs in Dhaka on Thursday.
Intelligence agencies have prepared a list of ‘drug lords’ in the capital to conduct the drive, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah.
The home minister referred to drug addict Oishee Rahman who killed her parents Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman to explain the horror of narcotics in people’s lives.
“You have seen the severity of drugs, Khan said as he urged people to monitor children, brothers or neighbours and provide the police with information on drugs.
Law-enforcement agencies declared a war on drugs throughout the country following a directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
At least 45 people have been killed in ‘shootouts’ in different districts over the last six days.
