Hiroshima survivors urge Bangladesh to work for global peace

The survivors of the World War II atomic bomb in Hiroshima have recalled horrors of the attack and appealed to the Bangladesh foreign minister to “constantly work for peace and harmony” across the world.

AH Mahmood Ali, on the second day of his Japan trip, visited Yano Orizuru En, a nursing home in Hiroshima, which is taking care of 100 survivors of the holocaust in 1945.

“Peace and love above all,” said the atomic bomb survivors to Mahmood Ali during his visit on Tuesday.

He told them that “Bangladesh is firmly against nuclear weapons and is working closely with Japan in this regard,” the Bangladesh embassy in Japan said.

The Orizuru En authority gave the Bangladesh delegation a tour of the facility while the foreign minister met and talked with the atomic bomb survivors.

After visiting the nursing home, he went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park to pay tribute to the victims of the atomic bomb.

The Peace Memorial Park Authority showed the minister and his delegation historical artefacts of the holocaust.

Mahmood Ali laid floral wreathe at the cenotaph of the park.

Earlier, he met the governor of the Hiroshima Prefecture and exchanged views about strengthening cooperation to promote peace.

He is scheduled is return to Bangladesh on Wednesday.
