Nobody has filed a case over the two murder incidents as of Saturday, said Md Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Naniarchar Police Station.

“We spoke to the victims’ families and asked them to file a case. They agree and but reconsider later.”

“If they do not file a case by today, police will contact higher authorities and then file a case themselves.”

The police official said that the area is still calm, despite the six murders in two days.

Naniarchar Upazila Chairman Shaktiman Chakma was shot dead on Thursday, while five of his mourners were killed the next day in a gun attack on a microbus while on the way to his funeral.

Shaktiman Chakma, 55, was a reformist and vice-president of the Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma).

Five people, including United People’s Democratic Front (Ganatantrik) leader Tapan Jyoti Chakma, were killed on Friday. At least eight others were injured in the attack. Four of them have been transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma) and United People’s Democratic Front (Ganatantrik) has claimed that the United People’s Democratic Front or UPDF, led by Prasit Bikash Khisha, was responsible for the killings.
