The man has been identified as 30-year-old Abdul Hakim Mintu, a resident of Tekpara village of Shekherkhali Union and son of Shamsul Alam.

Mintu was accused of raping a 10-year old girl, said police.

The shootout took place in Banshkhali Upazila, according to RAB Lieutenant Commander Ashikur Rahman.

On the basis of the information, the RAB team went to the area to arrest Mintu. When the team reached the area, some miscreants opened fire. The RAB members fired back in retaliation.

Amid the gunfight, some criminals fled. One person was found bullet-hit and rushed to Pekuya Health Complex, where a doctor declared him dead.

“Later, he was identified as Mintu after checking some documents found in his pocket,” said the chief of RAB-7 Chandgaon Camp.

On Apr 18, the victim went to a paddy field. Mintu raped her finding her alone there. On Apr 21, the victim’ father filed a case.

Sub-Inspector at Banshkahli Police Station Riton Chakma said the girl was a class III student and the rapist was widely known as a rowdy man in the area.
