The bag was found near the Kutubkhali Highway in Jatrabari on Apr 11. The body inside had been severed at the waist.

A case has been filed with Jatrabari Police Station, but no progress has been made in the investigation.

“The torso of the woman was missing and it wasn’t wearing any clothes. No complaints were filed at the police station; we are totally clueless,” Inspector Tofael Ahmed told bdnews24.com.

“It is likely the woman hailed from another neighbourhood; they must have dumped part of the body here after killing her,” Farook, a resident of the place where the bag was found told bdnews24.com.

“People gathered out of curiosity on that day after seeing the big bag by the road. The body was found when someone unzipped the bag,” he added.

Farook also said the trolley-bag was of the kind often used by travellers and so did not seem suspicious. He also said the bag was left on the southern side of Kutubkhali highway where people from different districts disembark.

Inspector Tofael claimed police are still working on the case. “We are following up in case the upper part of the body is found anywhere in the country; we have informed all law enforcement agencies,” he said.
