The traders were returning to their neighbourhood after buying vegetables from the wholesale market in Manikganj’s Jaagir.
The city corporation also aimed to make Dhaka residents of cleanliness.
Residents of Vadodara, the 10th cleanest city in India, created a new Guinness World record with 5,058 people sweeping a venue on May 28 last year.
“Through this event we would like to send a message to the world that we are a nation of cleanliness.”
The certificate of the world record will be awarded by the adjudicator of the Guinness World Records after the completion of necessary formalities.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzaman Mia who joined the event said it would help raise awareness to keep the city clean.
The registration for participants in the sweeping programme began around 7am from Golapshah Mazar in Gulistan and ended in the Paltan area in Dhaka.
