Kawsar Molla and Farhad Gazi were sentenced to death and two other convicts, Suruj Mia and Suparna, were jailed for life for killing two friends.

In 2010, Zakiur Rahman Jewell, a technician of Hyundai LED Company, and his friend Sabuj were hacked to death and beheaded after they visited Suparna’s house.

Over a romantic relationship with her suitor Sabuj, Suparna invited them and spiked a drink with narcotic pills. Later, Kawsar, Farhad and Suruj hacked them to death.

The convicts, save for Suruj, were tried as fugitives in the case.

Tribunal judge Abdur Rahman Sardar announced the verdict on Thursday.

Molla and Gazi were fined Tk 20,000 each and will serve one more year in prison if they fail to pay the fine.

According to the case dossier, Jewell resided in a rented house of his relative Marium Begum. Sabuj was his close friend. They were often seen together.

Sabuj was involved in a romantic relationship with Suparna. Convict Farhad Gazi is a cousin of Suparna.

In 2010, Jewell and Sabuj were scolded in Suparna’s house from where they never came back.

Later, police recovered their bodies in a remote village in Gazipur.

Jewell’s uncle Motaleb Hossain started a case with Uttarkhan Police Station against the four people in 2010.

Apart from others, Tuhin Matubbar, a minor, was named in a separate charge.

Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman pressed charges against three of them in 2011. Tuhin was charged separately.

The court delivered the verdict hearing the testimonies of ten people.
