Two pirates killed in alleged Narayanganj ‘shootout’

Two suspected pirates have been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Narayanganj.

RAB says the victims are pirate gang Zillur Bahini leader Zillur and one of his accomplices. Several cases have been filed against the two, they said.

The incident occurred in the Alirtek area of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila early on Monday, said RAB-11 Company Commander Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Alep Uddin.

RAB began an operation on the Dhaleswari River in Alirtek after receiving a tip that the Zillur Bahini were preparing to rob a boat. The gang opened fire once they noticed the RAB team and RAB returned fire.”

“Two of the bandits, including ‘pirate leader’ Zillur were shot. The rest fled. The wounded were recovered and taken to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

RAB-11 Inspector Zahirul Islam and Constable Jamal were injured in the shootout, said RAB official Alep.

A pistol and several other weapons were recovered from the scene, RAB said.
