The Fifth Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka set Feb 25 and 26 as the next dates for hearing the case after listening to the arguments for the third day on Thursday.

The judge, Md Akhtaruzzaman, was hearing the arguments in the case amid heightened tensions ahead of the delivery of the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, in which also Khaleda is an accused.

The trial of Khaleda and others accused in the two cases are being held at the special court set up in Bakhshibazar.

Khaleda arrived in the court for the hearing in the morning and it started at 11:30am.

Nuruzzaman Tapan, a lawyer for the BNP chief, told bdnews24.com her motorcade was not allowed on the street in front of the High Court, but diverted towards Fulbarhia on her way back home.

On Tuesday, her supporters stormed a police prison van and snatched away two BNP activists by beating up and injuring several policemen near the High Court when she was returning home after the hearing.

The ACC started the Zia Charitable Trust graft case in 2010 against the BNP chief and three others for embezzlement of Tk 31.5 million.

The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna, who is now the acting director (naval security and traffic) of BIWTA, and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam Khan.

Harris has been absconding since the case was started while Munna and Monirul made appearances in court.

After the State presented its arguments on Tuesday, Aminul Islam, the lawyer for Munna, started presenting his arguments.

On Wednesday, Aminul sought a lunch break around 1:30pm.

Mosharraf  Hossain Kajal, the lawyer for ACC, sought adjournment for the day at the time.

Judge Akhtaruzzaman replied he would not hear the case anymore in the day and adjourned the hearing until Feb 25.

After presenting his arguments on Wednesday, Kajal sought seven-year jail term for Khaleda.
