Bangladesh records slight increase in temperature

Temperature has increased slightly from its lowest level in history recorded in Panchagarh’s Tetulia on Monday.

The weather office’s records of 24 hours to 9am Tuesday show temperature in the northern

district has risen to 5.2 degrees Celsius where it remained at 2.6 degrees Celsius until 9am Monday.

The latest forecast shows Dinajpur as the coldest district: 4.8 degrees Celsius.

The capital Dhaka is also seeing elevation in temperature—10.7 degrees Celsius from 9.5.

The highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, while Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar with 25.5 degrees Celsius emerged as the warmest place in 24 hours.

Temperature may rise by one or two degrees Celsius across the country, as per the Met office’s forecast for next 24 hours. Dense fog may engulf some places at midnight.

The lowest temperature in the country's history was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius in Srimangal in 1968.

Temperature in Syedpur plummeted to 3 degrees Celsius on Jan 11, 2013, but it has not dipped below 3 degrees Celsius in recent years.

A cold wave has been sweeping across six divisions of Bangladesh since Jan 4. Though it began as a light cold wave (8-10 degrees Celsius), it soon developed into a medium cold wave (6-8 degrees Celsius). On Saturday, Rajshahi and Chuadanga reported temperature below 6 degrees Celsius.

The weather office considers temperatures from 4-6 degree Celsius to be a severe cold wave. Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur and Kushtia are currently experiencing severe cold waves.

Gopalganj, Satkhira, Jessore and Kushtia are shivering amid intense cold waves, as per Tuesday’s weather bulletin.

Mild to medium cold waves are sweeping across Srimangal, Comilla, Chittagong, Noakhali and other areas of Mymensingh, Barisal, Dhaka and Khulna divisions.

Cold waves which have disrupted lives across country may continue on mild-to-medium scale for the next few days, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Temperature may increase at night time in next 72 hours.
