RAB helicopter hovers in Dhaka sky as security strengthened on New Year’s Eve

The law enforcers have covered the capital under a security blanket on New Year’s Eve.

Police earlier said there would be tight security in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Dhaka University areas on Sunday.

The Rapid Action Battalion has brought it helicopters that are hovering over the city with searchlights on.

RAB Additional Director General Col Anwar Latif told a press briefing at Gulshan-2 roundabout that the helicopters would be at work until 12:30am on Monday.

Police and RAB have also set up check posts at key points.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police earlier banned open-air programmes and rooftop parties on New Year’s Eve. No fireworks are allowed.

Entry to Hatirjheel, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Dhaka University areas are restricted from 8pm Sunday to Monday morning.
