Missing Kalyan Party leader found, remanded over bomb attack case

Detective Police have received four days to question Kalyan Party Secretary General MM Aminur Rahman, who had been missing for four months, over a 2015 bomb attack on a protest attended by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.

Detective Police Inspector Md Zihad brought the Kalyan Party leader to court on Saturday to request a 10-day remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted four days of remand, SI Shaikh Raqibul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Rahman, who went missing on the night of Aug 27, was found four months later by Detective Branch police on Friday night after tracking his signal to Dhaka’s Shahjadpur.

According to the case documents, the Freedom Fighters Council organised a protest to surround the offices of the BNP chairperson on Feb 16, 2015. The demonstration, which was attended by 20,000-30,000 people, was led by Shipping Minister Khan. The suspects allegedly conducted the attack as the protesters were surrounding the BNP chairperson’s offices.

Dhaka Janbahan Union General Secretary Ismail Hossain Bachchu filed a case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Vice Chairman Selima Rahman, BNP leader Khandker Mahbub Rahman and 11 others over the incident.
