The three-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha gave the order on Sunday.

It scrapped the bail granted to prime suspect Minar by the High Court and ordered the trial court to finish the proceedings within six months.

Ekram, the then chairman of Feni's Phulgazi Upazila, was killed in a daylight attack in district town on May 20, 2014.

His brother filed a murder case the same day with Minar as the prime suspect and accusing around 35 unidentified others.

Police arrested Minar in Dhaka on May 27. He walked out of the jail after securing bail from the High Court on health grounds.

But he was arrested once again as he ignored the trial court's order to appear in a hearing after the police submitted the chargesheet.

A Feni court began the trial on Mar 15, 2016, after indicting 56 persons over the killing, including Minar.

On Nov 24 last year, a High Court bench granted him an interim bail for six months and issued a rule asking why he would not be granted bail permanently.

Sunday's order came as the State moved the Appellate Division against the order.
