Language movement veteran MA Wadud’s 90th birth anniversary observed

The 90th birth anniversary of language movement veteran MA Wadud was observed on Friday by family members.

He was born on Aug 1 in Rarirchar village in Chandpur, and was one of the founding members of Awami Muslim League.
 
He was a close friend of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
 
He was also a founding member of Ganatantrik Juba League, East Pakistan Muslim Chhatra League, and Kendriyo Kochi Kachar Mela.
 
He was the general secretary of East Pakistan Chhatra League from 1953-54.
 
Wadud was arrested in 1948 and 1952 by the Pakistani government for his involvement in the Language Movement.
 
He was expelled by Dhaka University along with Bangabandhu for his involvements in the language movement.
 
Wadud was also a victim of political persecution because he refused to join the military government in 1978.
 
He was associated with the Daily Ittefaq since its inception.
 
He died on Aug 28, 1983.
 
Former foreign minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dipu Moni is his daughter.
 
Diabetic foot surgeon Jawadur Rahim Wadud Tipu is his son.
