Dhaka North mayor hopeful Annisul Huq owns ‘no’ house, car

Dhaka North City Corporation mayor aspirant Annisul Huq has told the Election Commission he has no house or car in his name.

But the Awami League-endorsed candidate has declared in the affidavit that his wife, son and daughters have house, apartment and money.

A court order has made it legally binding on candidates in local government elections to reveal seven types of information, including their education. There is a provision to make the information public as well.

A ‘businessman’ by profession, Huq has declared in the affidavit that he is involved with 22 organisations including Mohammadi Group and he earns roughly Tk 7.58 million a year.

Of that, Tk 240,000 comes from house rent, Tk 2.5 million from business, Tk 161,000 from shares, and Tk 4.59 million from other sources including profits on fixed deposit receipts (FDR).

The former FBCCI chief has movable assets worth Tk 217.6 million.

They include as much as Tk 19.5 million in cash, Tk 114.8 million worth of bonds, debentures and company shares, Tk 35.3 million in fixed deposits and Tk 1.11 million worth of gold and jewellery.

Huq has lent Tk 54.6 million His wife, son and two daughters have assets estimated at more than Tk 70 million.

The former BGMEA president has not provided information on having such moveable assets as bus, truck, launch, car, steamer, plane or motorcycle.

His and the family’s immoveable assets include non-farming land worth Tk 35.7 million, house/apartment valued at Tk 7 million in his wife’s name and 3.85-katha land in his son and daughters’ names.

The businesses he owns have debts to the tune of over Tk 1.51 billion and he said in the affidavit that these were regular loan.

Huq also has collateral-free debts amounting to Tk 52.9 million.

He has an MA and there is no lawsuit against him, according to the affidavit.
