ICRF calls Robertson's opinion "biased, factually incorrect and fallacious"

A research foundation has termed QC Geoffrey Robertson’s report "biased, factually incorrect and fallacious".

QC Geoffrey Robertson in a Feb 17 London press conference wanted some of the Freedom Fighters tried for alleged war crimes perpetrated against surrendered Pakistani troops and Urdu-speaking civilians locally called 'Biharis'.

The International Crimes Research Foundation (ICRF) has responded to his statements by calling his 124-page opinion on the ICT trials "biased, factually incorrect and fallacious".

Robertson, like other foreign lawyers of the Jamaat-e-Islami, came down on the 'lack of global standards' in the ongoing war crimes trials in Bangladesh.

He was critical of excluding freedom fighters from the ongoing war crimes trials that targets collaborators of the Pakistan army, especially leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami.

"These war crimes were committed against the 3 million Urdu-speaking population and others who supported the unity of Pakistan. So there should be trial for these crimes as well."

ICRF attacked Robertson's claims of the Liberation War of 1971 actually being a "civil war" accusing him of attempting to taint and disrespect the history of Bangladesh.

ICRF has expressed astonishment over Robertson's statement that his report should be treated as directives by the Tribunal and should be taken seriously by the government and the legal establishment of Bangladesh.

Robertson said he was approached by Jamaat's foreign lawyer Toby Cadmen in March 2014 to write this opinion.
