Police had to fire rubber bullets and teargas shells about 50 times to separate the members of the feuding families—Kala Gazi and Nagor Bari.

Bahmanbaria town Police Station Sub Inspector Atiqur Rahman said the clash, which broke out in the morning, lasted for about four hours.

At least 30 houses and shops were damaged and looted during the mayhem.

According to SI Atiqur, members of the Nagor Bari clan attacked the Kala Gazi clan around 6 am Friday to avenge a raid that had left on one of its members, Russell Miah, injured several days ago.

Both the clan members were armed with sharp weapons. The injured have been admitted to the Bahmanbaria Sadr Hospital.

Police brought the situation under control around 10am. Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
