Police said they were arrested for planning violence in the coastal outback after pronouncement of next verdict by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Swandip Police Station Officer in-Charge Gias Uddin told bdnews24.com that those detained were from Fatikchharhi, Nazirhat, Banshkhali, Cox’s Bazar and Comilla areas. But their identity was not disclosed.

Three have been nabbed from the Upazila’s Muchapur area and the other five were held from separate residential hotels in the Sadar area, the OC said.

Police suspect they were absconding and had past criminal records, the OC said.

“They were plotting chaos in the coastal area following the next verdict of war criminals.”
