AL leader Imamuddin passes away

Language movement veteran, Awami League advisory committee member and former parliament member Imamuddin Ahmed died Sunday morning at the Sikder Medical College Hospital, Dhaka.

Dhaka, Feb 12 (BDNEWS) – Language movement veteran, Awami League advisory committee member and former parliament member Imamuddin Ahmed died Sunday morning at the Sikder Medical College Hospital, Dhaka.
He was 75.
He had been undergoing treatment at the Sikder Medical College Hospital after he suffered severe head injury in an accident in Faridpur on February 8. He was first admitted to Faridpur General Hospital and later shifted to the Sikder Medical where he was operated upon.
Awami League central leaders rushed to the Sikder Medical hearing his death news and expressed their deep condolences. They also consoled the members of bereaved family.
The first namaz-e- janaza of late Imamuddin was held at AL central office premises before being taken the dead body to his home district Faridpur.
AL central leaders, including Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed and Obaidul Kader, attended the janaza. They also placed floral wreaths at the coffin of the deceased on behalf of AL president Sheikh Hasina.
He is survived by wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Faridpur district AL held a condolence meeting after his death news reached at the district and many broke into tears hearing his death news.
Born in 1930 in Faridpur, Imamuddin Ahmed, a close associate of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman, played a pioneering role in the language movement in Faridpur in 1952. He was an organiser of the liberation war in 1971. He was actively involved in the local and national politics as a leader of Awami League.
The veteran politician Imamuddin was elected Member of Parliament in 1973 general elections. He was made president of Fadirpur district Awami League immediately after the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975.
AL president and Leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep shock at the death of Imamuddin.
In a condolence message, Hasina said the nation would remember him for his glorious role in the war of liberation and different democratic movements.
"With his death, the countrymen lost a dedicated and honest leader, and I myself a guardian and a colleague," the AL president said.
She prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family members.
