Faridpur, Nov 18 (BDNEWS) – As journalist Gautam Das was buried Friday, hundreds of people demonstrated for failure of the law-enforcing agencies in arresting the assassins responsible for the killing of the Samakal bureau chief of Faridpur Friday.
The district town and other important places of the town turned into a sea of humanity as hundreds of people from all walks of life came on the streets and held rallies and meetings demanding exemplary punishment for the killers.
Hasanuzzaman, staff reporter of Samakal Faridpur bureau, filed a case with the Faridpur Kotwali Thana without mentioning the names of the criminals Thursday night.
Abdul Jalil, Superintendent (SP) of police in Faridpur, told BDNEWS that they would unearth the clues to the brutal killing within a short time.
The body of the slain journalist was brought to his native village at Chandidasdi where he was buried beside his great grandfather Biswanath Ananda.
Hundreds of people, including journalists, politicians and other people from different strata of life paid their last respects to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, local journalists declared a four-day programme to protest the brutal killing of the newsman.
As part of their programme, journalists would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the sate minister for home through the local administration Saturday.
Moreover, the Awami League also has called a protest rally Saturday morning at Janata Bank circle in the town.
Gautam Das was the second son of Balaram Das from the village Chandidasdi under Bhanga upazila in the district.
He worked at first as the Faridpur correspondent of the daily Prothom Alo before joining the daily Samakal as its staff correspondent and later bureau chief.
