Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has gone to inspect the damage to the buildings housing the Dhaka head offices of major newspapers Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
He arrived for the inspection of the two buildings at 9am on Friday.
Abdullah Al Imran, additional deputy commissioner of police for the Tejgaon Division (Industrial Zone, said: “The honourable IGP inspected the Prothom Alo and Daily Star buildings in the morning.”
The police chief spoke to people connected with the two buildings and asked about the situation.
Agitated protesters took to the streets in Dhaka and across the country after the death of Inqilab Moncho Convener Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was reported. At one point the buildings belonging to newspapers Prothom Alo and Daily Star in Karwan Bazar, cultural institution Chhayanaut in Dhanmondi, and the house of an Awami League leader in Uttara, were vandalised. Fires were also set. Fire Service personnel eventually brought the fires under control.
