The sale of advance train tickets for journeys before and after Eid-ul-Azha will begin on May 21.
Tariq Muhammad Imran, deputy chief operations officer (COPS) of Bangladesh Railway’s Eastern Zone, said the schedule for the sale of advance and return tickets was decided at a meeting chaired by the railway’s director general in Dhaka on Saturday.
Five special trains will run on the eastern route this time alongside three pairs of special trains arranged for the supply of sacrificial animals.
Tickets for May 31 will be made available on May 21, followed by those for Jun 1 on May 22, Jun 2 on May 23, Jun 3 on May 24, Jun 4 on May 25, Jun 5 on May 26, and Jun 6 on May 27.
The authorities have been asked to sell tickets considering that the Eid-ul-Azha will fall on Jun 7 or 8 this year.
According to the Railway's East Zone, all tickets will be sold online this time as well.
Railway official Imran said, “Advance train tickets for the Western Zone can be collected from 8am and for the eastern region from 2pm.”
Each passenger can buy one round-trip ticket online, purchasing up to four tickets per transaction.
Both the advance and return tickets are non-refundable.
Return tickets will be available from May 30, starting with tickets for Jun 9.
Tickets for Jun 10 will be sold on May 31, Jun 11 on Jun 1, Jun 12 on Jun 2, Jun 13 on Jun 3, Jun 14 on Jun 4, and Jun 15 on Jun 5.
