Former MP Selima Ahmed, also the founder president of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has died at the age of 65.
She died on Sunday at a hospital in Bangkok, according to SM Abul Kalam Azad, secretary general of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He told bdnews24.com that she had long been suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment in Thailand’s capital.
“She had been admitted to a hospital in Bangkok for advanced treatment. She died there while under care,” he said.
Azad added that preparations were under way to bring her body back to Bangladesh, likely on Monday or Tuesday, though no final decision has been made.
Selima, vice-chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group, has been mourned by business leaders following her death.
