The US government has downgraded its overall travel advisory for Bangladesh, lowering the alert level from "Reconsider Travel" (Level 3) to "Exercise Increased Caution" (Level 2).
Announcing the update in a media statement on Thursday, the foreign ministry noted that the move indicates the US now considers Bangladesh "safer to visit".
The announcement followed a meeting held earlier at State Guest House Padma in Dhaka between Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Sergio Gor, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for South and Central Asia.
According to the ministry, Gor informed the foreign minister of the decision via a text message shortly after their meeting concluded.
On X, Gor said: This evening I informed Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman that the State Department has taken into consideration the stable conditions on the ground, and has deemed that Bangladesh is safer for travels.
“Accordingly, the United States overall travel advisory has been downgraded from level 3, to level 2. A few areas have additional restrictions and should be avoided. Great news!”
The statement said the improved advisory reflects growing US confidence in Bangladesh's overall security situation and political stability.
“Over the past six months, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the present government has achieved visible progress in strengthening law and order across the country,” the statement read.
The ministry added that the adjustment underscores the positive trajectory of US-Bangladesh relations.
"The Bangladesh government views this improvement as a recognition of its sustained efforts to ensure security, stability, and an enabling environment for international travel, trade, investment, and people-to-people connectivity.”
