Fire brought under control at Mohakhali's Sat Tola slum

Firefighters have subdued a blaze within 40 minutes after it broke out at the Sat Tola slum in Dhaka’s Mohakhali.

Five firefighting units were dispatched to the scene after the incident was reported at 2:37pm on Wednesday, according to Fire Service spokesman Anowarul Islam.

The fire was brought under control at 3:18pm, said Nazim Uddin Sarkar, an officer of the Tejgaon Fire Station who was on duty at the site.

Videos shared on social media showed flames ripping through part of the densely populated settlement, with thick black smoke rising high into the sky and visible from afar.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately determined.
