A long-running feud has turned deadly in Chuadanga’s Alamdanga Upazila as two factions of the BNP clashed after Eid prayers, leaving two people dead and at least five others injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Chhatrpara village under Dauki Union, said Alamdanga Police chief Bani Israel.

The dead were identified as Nazim Uddin Kazi, 75, and Shimul Kazi, 18, both residents of the village.

Among the injured, Asiya Begum and Shariful Islam were critically hurt and sent to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

Police have yet to identify the others.

Police and witnesses said tensions flared between the two groups after Eid prayers over prior disputes, escalating into a violent clash by noon.

During the clash, news spread that Shimul had been injured.

His grandfather Nazim fell ill and died before he could be taken to hospital.

Locals, however, claimed Nazim suffered a heart attack after being pushed while trying to save his grandson.

Shimul, who was critically injured, died on the way to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

Allegations emerged that the “Jahangir group”, led by local ward BNP President Lal Khan and Upazila Jubo Dal member Jahangir, identified by a single name, attacked the rival “Kubir Kazi group”, leaving several people, including Kubir Kazi himself, seriously injured.

The hospital’s residential medical officer Prashanta Kumar Dhar said five injured were admitted, with two referred for advanced treatment.

Officer Bani Israel said police brought the situation under control and launched an investigation.

The exact cause of death will be confirmed after postmortem reports.
