Police have obstructed the entry of National Citizen Party (NCP) activists to Habiganj despite their wait on the road for four hours.
They subsequently filed a case over a prior attack before returning to Moulvibazar.
From 5pm on Wednesday, police halted the NCP leaders' convoy at Muchhai, near the Kamaichhara police outpost in Bahubal Upazila.
NCP leaders attempted to negotiate with police officers to allow them to attend their scheduled programme in Habiganj during this time.
Police, however, refused them entry into the town, citing the imposition of Section 144 in the Habiganj municipal area.
Habiganj Superintendent of Police Tareq Mahmud said, "They were turned back solely out of security considerations.
“Later in the evening, they sat at the Kamaichhara police outpost and filed a case on Tuesday's attack."
The case names 11 individuals, including Habiganj district unit Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, along with another 100 unidentified suspects.
Tanmoy Tanvir Ruel, convenor of the district Jubo Shakti, initiated the complaint.
The convoy subsequently departed for Moulvibazar.
Khaled Hasan, convenor of the Moulvibazar district NCP, said the NCP leaders will stay at the Moulvibazar circuit house overnight.
“They have a programme scheduled in Sylhet on Thursday and will set off for this in the morning,” he added.
