9 more testify against Hasina, family over ‘plot graft’

The court has set Oct 6 as the next date for recording testimony

Nine more people have testified against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s children Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq in three corruption cases tied to the Purbachal New Town project.

Dhaka’s Fourth Special Judge Rabiul Alam took their testimonies on Sunday.

The witnesses included Mohammad Farhaduzzaman, executive general manager of Eastern Housing Limited, operator Sheikh Shamsher Ali, assistant executive member Himel Chandra Das; and Akhter Jahan, administrative officer at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Khan Md Mainul Hasan Lipon, counsel for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said the testimony of nine people had been recorded.

As the accused are absconding, their lawyers were not given the opportunity to cross-examine the witnesses.
