Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will embark on an official visit to Russia from Jun 7 to 9 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the foreign minister will depart for Moscow on Sunday.

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova detailed the itinerary during a press briefing in St Petersburg on Thursday, the transcript of which was published on the ministry's official website.

The Russian ministry said the talks between the two foreign ministers will take place on Jun 8 and will cover bilateral and international issues.

“A special emphasis will be placed on our interaction at the UN as Khalilur Rahman has been elected President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly,” the briefing noted.

It also recalled that the last contact between the two foreign ministers took place in September 2023, when the Russian foreign minister visited Dhaka on a working trip.

The programme of the Bangladeshi foreign minister also includes meetings with senior officials from the Federation Council, Rosatom State Corporation, and other organisations.

On Wednesday, Russia congratulated Khalilur on his election as president of the UN General Assembly.
