Robbers have shot a jewellery businessman in Dhaka’s Banasree and fled with his bag containing gold and cash.
The incident took place around 10:30pm on Sunday on Road No 7 in Banasree’s D Block, just as businessman Anowar Hossain was about to enter his home.
Rampura Police Station chief Ataur Rahman Akand said Anowar was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Anowar owns Alankar Jewellers in Banasree and usually returns home at that time every day, the police officer said.
"Just before he entered his house, a group of men on motorcycles surrounded him. They shot him and fled after snatching his bag, which, according to him, contained 233.27g of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash," Ataur said.
A video of the attack has gone viral on Facebook.
The footage shows six to seven men arriving on three motorcycles, surrounding Anowar, and attacking him with a knife and a gun.
The assailants took his bag and escaped within seconds.
Speaking to journalists at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Anowar said he had tried to resist but was shot and stabbed before the robbers snatched his valuables.
"We are at the scene, collecting CCTV footage from the area, and working to identify those involved," said Ataur.
