Former editor of Daily Naya Diganta Alamgir Mohiuddin has died at the age of 83.
Mohiuddin passed away around 1:30pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi, National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan said.
He had been under care at the hospital since last week after falling ill at home. The veteran journalist is survived by two daughters, having lost his wife four years ago.
Family members said his funeral prayer will be held after Maghrib at Manipuri Para Krishi Laboratories Mosque, followed by burial at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard in Rayer Bazar.
Born in Natore, Alamgir studied English at Rajshahi University before entering journalism. He worked for the Daily Observer, The New Nation, The Dawn and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
From 2004 until early this year, he served as editor of Bangla daily Naya Diganta, nearly two decades after a stint as editor of the English-language New Nation.
