Police in Chattogram have arrested a man after recovering firearms and bullets from a residence in Lohagara Upazila, saying the ammunition had been looted during the July Uprising.
Members of a joint force arrested the man on Thursday night in Telibila, seizing seven rounds of bullets and two locally-made firearms.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Rifat, 32, a resident of Telibila.
Lohagara Police chief Abdul Jalil told bdnews24.com that Rifat has several cases filed against him with the police.
Acting on intelligence, the joint force conducted a raid at his house on Thursday and detained him.
During a subsequent search of the residence, police recovered seven rounds of shotgun cartridges, two locally-made light guns (LGs), several sharp weapons and mobile phones.
The officer said the recovered bullets were among those looted from Lohagara Police Station during the mass uprising from July-August in 2024.
Police have filed an additional case against Rifat and said he would be sent to jail through a court on Friday.
