The affordable electric car market has become increasingly competitive, with a growing number of small models giving buyers more choice, The Independent reports.
The Independent listed the best affordable electric cars for 2026, highlighting a growing range of small EVs aimed at buyers seeking lower-cost options.
The Nissan Pixo is the latest entrant, with a 27.5kWh battery, a claimed range of 161 miles and rapid charging that can take the battery from 15 to 80 percent in 28 minutes. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027, although UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.
According to The Independent, The Pixo is based on the Renault Twingo, which is expected to cost less than £19,000 and offers a claimed range of 163 miles.
Other affordable options include the Dacia Spring, Leapmotor T03 and Fiat 500 Electric.
The Independent has also included the BYD Dolphin Surf, Honda Super-N, Geely EX2 and Hyundai Inster, with models from Volkswagen, Kia and MG adding to the growing list of upcoming small EVs.
The models offer different combinations of driving range, passenger space, boot capacity and equipment. For example, the Geely EX2 has five seats and a 375-litre boot, while the Hyundai Inster offers a longer-range version with up to 229 miles of claimed range.
The growing competition is giving buyers more options across price, range, practicality and equipment.
For models such as the Pixo, combining useful features and practicality with competitive pricing will be increasingly important as more manufacturers enter the small EV market, the report added.
