A fire has ravaged a bus that had been impounded by police after a road accident in Faridpur.
The bus was parked on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway next to the Karimpur Highway Police Station in Kanaipur Union when it caught fire around 11:30pm on Saturday, according to station chief Md Salauddin Chowdhury.
However, the authorities could not immediately determine the source of the fire. The incident came ahead of a hartal called by the "banned" Awami League.
Informed of the matter, Faridpur Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control around midnight.
Salauddin said that the RSF Paribahan bus had been involved in a road accident in Madhukhali Upazila before Eid-ul-Azha. The bus was then impounded and kept by the roadside, about 150 yards west of the station.
"The bus was being looked after by people from the owner's side, but they had been absent since Saturday afternoon. Later, around 11:30pm, we learnt that the bus had caught fire."
It is still unclear how the fire started or whether miscreants were involved, he added.
