Former Nepal prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has returned home after reportedly spending nearly five months abroad, The Kathmandu Post reports.
He landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu around 12:30pm local time on Thursday via Hong Kong and is expected to return directly to his rented residence in Maharajgunj.
His personal secretary Bhanu Deuba said the former Nepal premier would reside at the same property he had rented prior to leaving the country.
Deuba, however, left Nepal for Singapore on Feb 25, citing a medical check-up.
Though he subsequently spent nearly five months outside Nepal, the circumstances surrounding his prolonged stay and medical treatment remain largely unexplained.
He had flown directly from Kathmandu to Singapore, while his wife former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba travelled to Singapore via New Delhi.
It remains unclear when Deuba, Rana, and their son Jaybir Singh Deuba departed Singapore for Hong Kong.
The current whereabouts of Rana and Jaybir are unknown.
Although the family said they were abroad for health-related reasons, they have not publicly disclosed the nature of their medical conditions or where the treatment took place.
Unanswered questions also persist over the total expenses incurred during their five-month overseas stay and the sources funding their medical care.
