Saudi Arabia has temporarily shut down its East-West Pipeline following targeted attacks in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, the kingdom’s Ministry of Energy said on Friday.
Several people were injured in the attacks on Thursday morning and received medical treatment, the ministry said in a statement, reports Arab News.
Immediately after the attacks, emergency and specialised teams were deployed to secure the pipeline and assess its safety.
The shutdown was approved as a precaution, the statement said.
Further developments would be announced accordingly, it said.
Iran-backed Houthis had targeted civilian and energy infrastructure in the kingdom’s Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran areas. Several fires broke out at oil facilities in the southern region and led to a temporary halt in some operations, the ministry said.
The attacks on Saudi Arabia wounded 73 civilians, including women and children, Arab News said.
The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen condemned the attacks and vowed action to neutralise the threat.
