Police recover body of Bangladeshi man from Los Angeles house

He lived alone in a rented apartment

Police have recovered the body of Sakib Ali, a young Bangladeshi man, from a house in the US’s Los Angeles.

The body was recovered from the Marina del Rey neighbourhood on Monday.

Sakib, 30, worked for e-commerce giant Amazon. He was the only son of physician Mohammad Ali Manik, general secretary of the US South Awami League.

Local journalist Laskar Al Mamun said that Sakib's family had not been able to find any trace of him since Saturday. His father Manik and mother Shakira Ali then rushed to Marina del Rey City from Atlanta, Georgia on Monday. They found Sakib's house locked from the inside and called the police. The police then came, collected the code from the apartment supervisor, and opened the door. Sakib's body was lying on the bedroom floor.

Mamun said, "It is believed that Sakib died two days ago due to heart disease. However, the actual cause of death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem."

After earning a higher degree in information technology, Sakib started his career at telecom company AT&T in Atlanta. He then joined e-commerce giant Amazon. Later, he settled in Los Angeles.

Sakib lived alone in a rented house in Marina del Rey City, adjacent to the Los Angeles airport. His funeral is scheduled to be held at the Southern California Islamic Center before his body is taken to Georgia.

The US Awami League and the expatriate Bangladeshi community have expressed condolences over Sakib's death.
