Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are likely to hold a bilateral meeting on Saturday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
The meeting is expected to take place during Xi’s first visit to India in seven years, the Firstpost reports.
Xi is expected to arrive in New Delhi around 11am on Saturday and leave on Sunday around the same time, said the Indian news website.
He will be accompanied by a large delegation of senior government officials and business representatives.
The Chinese foreign ministry is expected to confirm Xi’s participation in the summit on Thursday.
The proposed meeting comes as India and China seek to stabilise ties following years of tensions over their disputed border.
Relations between the two countries plunged to their lowest point since the 1962 war after Chinese incursions, the occupation of territory claimed by India and clashes involving Indian soldiers in 2020.
The most serious confrontation took place in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh, where 20 Indian soldiers were killed.
The border tensions severely strained diplomatic and economic ties between the two Asian powers, the report said.
