Microsoft has deployed emergency out-of-band updates to resolve critical Remote Desktop Services (RDS) failures triggered by its September 2026 security updates, technology outlet gHacks reports.
The initial security rollouts caused widespread instability across affected systems, leading to RDP connection failures, login errors, and unresponsive servers.
Key management tools -- including the Microsoft Management Console, File Explorer, and the Windows Update page -- also froze on affected machines.
While system administrators initially resorted to uninstalling the security updates or applying temporary Group Policy workarounds, Microsoft has now released permanent fixes across multiple platforms:
• Windows 10 (21H2, 22H2): KB5129236
• Windows 11 (24H2, 25H2): KB5129195
• Windows 11 (26H1): KB5129194 (Available via Windows Update, WSUS, and Microsoft Update Catalogue)
• Windows Server 2019: KB5129238 (Microsoft Update Catalogue)
• Windows Server 2022: KB5129237 (Microsoft Update Catalog; fixes KB5122882 issue)
• Windows Server 2025: KB5129235 (Microsoft Update Catalog; fixes KB5122871 issue)
Beyond resolving the RDS instability, the emergency patches address a Hyper-V flaw that prevented host folders from sharing with Linux virtual machines via Plan9.
They also correct an issue causing USB Audio Class 1.0 devices to fail when switching to multichannel or 3D audio modes.
Microsoft, however, confirmed that a secondary issue affecting USB Audio Class 1.0 devices -- which triggers "Code 10" errors in Device Manager or causes complete audio failure -- remains unresolved.
The company is actively working on a fix, though no timetable has been announced, the technology outlet said.
