Inter Miami have announced the arrival of new manager Cristian 'Kily' Gonzalez, with the Argentine signing a contract through June 2028.

The club said last month that Gonzalez would take charge once his US work permits had been secured.

Guillermo Hoyos had been serving as interim manager after Javier Mascherano stepped down in April.

Inter Miami have endured disappointing results despite having Lionel Messi and several established players in their squad. The reigning MLS Cup champions have won just one of their last five regular-season matches and sit second in the Eastern Conference, nine points behind leaders Nashville.

Gonzalez, 51, won 56 caps for Argentina between 1995 and 2005 and had playing spells with Inter Milan, Valencia and Rosario Central.

He moved into coaching in 2020 and has managed several clubs in Argentina.

Gonzalez held his first training session on Tuesday morning, ahead of Wednesday's Campeones Cup match against Mexican side CD Cruz Azul.
