Newcastle have rejected Liverpool's initial bid for forward Alexander Isak, as the Magpies hold firm on their high valuation of the player.

The Premier League champions' proposal is in the region of £120 million ($157.9 million), The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old, seeking fresh challenges, has been training with his former club, Real Sociedad, while Eddie Howe’s Newcastle squad tours South Korea for pre-season.

Despite the Magpie's efforts to secure the Sweden international with an improved contract including a release clause next summer, Isak and his representatives have consistently maintained his desire to leave.

Isak has established his status as one of Europe’s top strikers, netting 27 goals last season, including a crucial strike in Newcastle’s 2-1 Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool, securing their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
