Manchester United are contemplating a last-minute bid for Aston Villa's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to resolve their goalkeeping woes before Monday's transfer deadline.

The club has been in talks with Royal Antwerp over their 23-year-old Belgian prospect Senne Lammens, who is eager to move and has been omitted from Antwerp's recent matches, BBC Sport reports.

Antwerp require a sizeable sale to repay an external loan, making Lammens a viable option despite his limited high-level experience.

In contrast, Martinez boasts 197 Premier League appearances, two Fifa goalkeeper of the year awards, and international success with Argentina.

Incumbent keepers Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have both erred this season, with Bayindir's recent mistake nearly costing victory but for Bruno Fernandes' late penalty.

"I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment," Amorim was quoted as saying, after Saturday's 3-2 victory over Burnley, by BBC Sport.

An initial loan enquiry for the 32-year-old Martinez was rebuffed by Villa at summer's start.

Martinez seemed to bid farewell to Villa fans last season but played in their recent loss to Brentford.
