Cristiano Ronaldo has stepped forward to support Lionel Messi during a difficult time, expressing his condolences to the Argentina star following the passing of his father last week, Spanish national daily Marca reports.
Messi posted an open letter to his father Jorge Messi on Instagram on Wednesday. The heartfelt message highlighted the depth of their relationship, a son’s love for his father, and the sense of heartbreak following such a loss.
Ronaldo urged Messi to remain strong during this tragic period responding to the Argentina captain’s tribute to his late father on Instagram, writing: “Un abrazo enorme para ti y los tuyos en estos duros momentos, Leo. Mucha fuerza.”
The message translates as: “A huge hug to you and your loved ones during these tough times, Leo. Much strength.”
Messi's father had been unwell since before the World Cup held last June–July and spent an extended period in hospital.
Following a long illness, the 68-year-old died at a hospital in Rosario, Argentina.
The Inter Miami star flew to Rosario on a private jet with his wife and children that same evening.
He has since stepped away from footballing duties to remain with his family.
