Barcelona are exploring a move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who reportedly favours a Camp Nou switch over any other destination this summer, The Athletic reports.

Barcelona have reportedly held talks with Rodri's representatives over a potential transfer.

The 30-year-old is said to be attracted by the club's playing style and the prospect of reuniting with eight of his Spain team-mates from the country's 2026 World Cup-winning squad.

Barcelona's interest comes as midfielder Frenkie de Jong faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee.

The Catalan club would need to sell players to create financial room before pursuing a deal.

The Athletic previously reported that Real Madrid were also working on a move for the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner.

Real remain interested and are aware of Barcelona's pursuit, although negotiations with Manchester City over a transfer fee have yet to be resolved.

Rodri has entered the final year of his City contract and has previously shown little willingness to extend his stay.

During the April international break, he said he hoped to return to Spain and play in La Liga again at some stage in his career.

Barcelona have already signed wingers Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer and remain in the market for a striker following Robert Lewandowski's departure, with Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez among their targets.

Rodri played a key role in Spain's 2026 World Cup triumph, captaining the side in all eight matches and winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

Since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, he has won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League, scoring the winning goal in the 2023 final.

He has made 298 appearances for City, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.
