The senior BNP leader surrendered to the court on Monday over two cases of violence filed with Dhaka’s Motijheel and Paltan police stations.

The court Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail.

“Mirza Abbas was absconding for long. He had not appeared before the court even after being informed of the cases. His supporters unleashed violence at his behest,” said Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu.

The case filed with Dhaka’s Paltan police in December 2014, accuses Abbas of being involved in incidents of arson and explosions.

The other case with the Motijheel police lodged on Jan 4, 2015, charges him with use of explosives.
