BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has arrived in Sylhet to officially launch his campaign for the parliamentary polls.

He landed at Sylhet’s MAG Osmani International Airport on Wednesday night at 8pm aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines jet, accompanied by senior BNP leaders and his wife Zubaida Rahman.

Speaking to the media, BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said: “He will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shah Paran.”

The BNP supremo departed from his Gulshan residence in Dhaka around 6:30pm for Shahjalal International Airport.

Hundreds of BNP activists, including district unit President Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury and Acting President of the city unit Rezaul Hasan, welcomed him on arrival.

From the airport, he will travel by road to Shahjalal shrine, followed by Shah Paran’s shrine in Khadimnagar.

After paying his respects, he will visit his late father-in-law Mahbub Ali Khan’s house in Birahimpur, Silam Union, South Surma, before retiring for the night at Grand Sylhet Hotel and Resort.

Kaiyum said, “After inaugurating the poverty alleviation programme in Silam Union in 2004, Tarique Rahman visited his in-laws’ home for the first time. He is returning there for the second time after 21 years.”
