Prime Minister Tarique Rahman says the government is working to implement its promise to improve the living standards of the country's working people.
"The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which the people of this country voted in with a huge majority in the last election, is the party to run the country,” he said in response to a question from Pabna-5 MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas during the Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) in parliament on Wednesday morning.
He said, “This party's commitment is to the people of this country, this party's commitment is to Bangladesh."
"That is why, in our election manifesto, just as we have adopted policies for industrialists, similarly, we have adopted different policies so that the working class, people of different professions, and working people can gradually improve their living standards. We have made several promises and we have also started implementing these promises."
The prime minister noted that various election promises – such as canal digging, Family Cards, Farmer Cards, tree plantation, stipends for religious leaders, Sports Cards for professional athletes -- in the manifesto had been launched in some capacity already.
The parliamentary session began at 11am with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in the chair.
